Our Course Offerings
NRA Home Firearm Safety
This course is designed to present the basic knowledge and skills and explain the attitude necessary for the safe handling and storing of guns in the home. The course will also familiarize participants with safe gun handling procedures and guidelines for storing pistols, rifles, and shotguns in the home. This is a NON-firing course, the emphasis is on safe handling, not marksmanship.
NRA Basics Of Pistol Shooting Class
This course is designed to present the basic knowledge, skills and attitude for owning and safely using a pistol. Nomemclature, operation and safe handling of handguns, followed by a thorough range experience tailored to new shooters, but good for reinforcing safety and proper range procedures for veteran shooters as well. Over 100 rounds in the full course of fire. NRA Certified Instructors will provide coaching and Range Safety supervision during the shooting portion of this course.
NRA Personal Protection In The Home Course
This course develops in students the basic knowledge, skills and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a firearm for protection of self and family, and provides information on the law-abiding citizen's right to self defense. Participants in this course must be experienced shooters who can demonstrate mastery of basic pistol shooting skills. Evidence of shooting experience can be validated by one of the following:
- NRA Beginning Pistol Shooting Seminar and NWSA Shooting Course
- NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Class Certificate
- NRA First Steps Pistol Class Certificate
- Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program (pistol disciplines)
- Pistol classification card issued by NRA, IDPA, IPSC
- Military DD-214 showing pistol qualification
- Passing the Pre-Course Evaluation
- Other evidence of pistol shooting proficiency
Participants must provide a pistol or revolver at least .380/.9mm/.38 Special caliber. Semiautomatics must have at least two magazines and revolvers need two speedloaders. Bring at least 100 rounds of any safe ammunition, and an extra 50 rounds if possible. Holsters will not be used or allowed.
NRA Personal Protection Outside The Home Course
This course develops in students the basic knowledge, skills and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a firearm for protection of self and family while outside the home, and provides information on the law-abiding citizen's right to self defense. Participants in this course must be experienced shooters who can demonstrate mastery of basic pistol shooting skills. This course is the followup course to Personal Protection In the Home, which is a prerequisite. Participants must provide a pistol or revolver at least .380/9mm/.38 Special caliber. Semiautomatics must have at least two magazines and revolvers need at least one speedloader. Bring 200 rounds of any safe ammunition. Holsters will be used but must meet strict NRA requirements (Call to discuss specifics of what is allowed, what is not, and why).
NRA Basic Rifle Shooting Course
This course introduces students to the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for owning and using a rifle safely. Through this course, the students will learn about Rifle parts and operation, ammunition, gun safety, rifle shooting fundamentals, and rifle shooting positions. The Basic Rifle Course will also help prepare the student for participation in other NRA courses. This course does include shooting on the NWSA Pistol Range (reduced range distance for instructional purposes).

Course Fees to be paid when Course Registration is confirmed
- Home Firearms Safety is $25 per student,
- NRA Basics Of Pistol Shooting is $50 per student,
- Basic Rifle is $50 per student,
- Personal Protection In The Home is $50 per student,
- Personal Protection Outside The Home is $50 per student.
All fees are payable in advance (cash or check) to North Whidbey Sportmen's Association.
